On the 11th June, MPs will have the chance to speak up on the immigration restriction No Recourse to Public Funds and how this cruel policy is pushing children into poverty.
We see the devastating impact of this every day at Praxis. We see it at our immigration advice services across London. We see it in our advocacy work and we see it in our weekly community groups.
Make sure your MP sees it too and attends the debate. Email them now.
- How No Recourse to Public Funds drives child poverty
1 in 3 children living in deep poverty have parents who were born outside the UK. That's not a coincidence.
Right now, around 4 million people are blocked from accessing a basic safety net simply because of an immigration restriction. The restriction is called No Recourse to Public Funds and it impacts almost every migrant in the UK, even if they are working and paying taxes.
We know this cruel policy pushes children into poverty. It means thousands of families in our communities are left teetering on the brink of disaster for years or decades. Many end up on the streets, and - without access to the support and services that help others in this situation - find it impossible to find a way out.
