The Government is expected to make final decisions on their earned settlement plans any day now.
These proposals would make settlement in the UK harder to achieve for millions of people. The standard wait would double from 5 years to 10 years, while some people could face a wait of 15, 20, or even 30 years before they can settle permanently in the place they already call home.
These plans would drive more families into homelessness, more children into poverty, and collapse our public services, including the NHS. And they would have the harshest effect on single mothers, people of colour, and disabled people.
Yet the Government still hasn't published the evidence showing what impact they expect these reforms would have on children, families, public services, or on our communities.
Because the Home Secretary holds so much power when it comes to immigration reform, MPs aren't even guaranteed an opportunity to scrutinise these proposals or the Government's evidence about their impacts before they're implemented. That's why writing to your MP is so important.
Email your MP today and tell them to demand scrutiny and impact assessments on these changes before any decisions are made.
