Aditya's story

When we met Aditya, he had spent more than 20 years on the streets. He arrived to the UK in 1999 seeking safety, yet the Home Office refused his asylum claim.

With no documents and no way to move back, all doors were shut to him. He couldn’t work, he couldn’t rent a home, he couldn’t access support to stay afloat. Like so many others in his situation, he became homeless, and he spent two decades sleeping rough.

One of our expert legal advisers helped him to submit an application with the Home Office so that he could finally get papers and access the support he needed to leave the streets and get his life back on track.

Gathering the documents needed for the application and doing the paperwork took us months, but it changed Aditya's life: his application was successful, which meant that finally, after more than 20 years, he had the documents he needed to get off the streets.

Now Aditya is 66 and he lives in a small studio, is receiving a pension and he finally feels safe.
