The local elections results were the clearest sign yet that the Government's hostile approach to immigration - lifting ideas straight from the far-right playbook - has failed.
The Government must change course to one that confronts the cost of living crisis, tackles deepening wealth inequality, and builds a society where everyone belongs, no matter where they were born.
Instead we're still getting more of the same - caution where courage is needed and cruelty dressed up as policy.
