1 in 3 children living in deep poverty are migrant children. And that's not a coincidence. Hostile immigration rules drive migrant families into poverty at a disproportionate rate.
That's why we're calling for the upcoming child poverty strategy to protect every child living in the UK from poverty, no matter where they or their parents were born.
We've only got a couple of months to make sure no child is left behind. Take action now and send an email to the Ministers responsible, Liz Kendall and Bridget Phillipson.
Right now, 4 million people in the UK - including at least half a million children - are denied access to a safety net. This is because of a policy called No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), it impacts almost every migrant family in the UK. This means that they are blocked from accessing Universal Credit, Child Benefit or any of the other benefits explicitly designed to protect families from poverty, even in a crisis.
To end child poverty, this government must scrap NRPF. Every day we see how it pushes families to the brink and into real hardship. Finally ending NRPF is not just about tackling the soaring levels of poverty in the UK. It's a matter of dignity.
