This Government is introducing the biggest overhaul to the immigration system in half a century. Permanent settlement will no longer be an immigration status secured after a given time in the UK. Instead, migrants and refugees will have to continually "earn" their right to stay in a new conditional system that echoes far-right notions of belonging.
We know around 1.3 million people will be personally impacted by the proposed changes and even more will have friends and family who will be. We know that people across the UK are outraged.
