We all want to feel like we belong. We all want to be free to live our lives together with our loved ones, and know that we can look after ourselves.
But some of us are denied any sense of security by a cruel immigration system that makes us wait for 10, 20 or even 30 years before we can get the right to stay here permanently. We're forced to go through a complicated and stressful visa application process again and again - even though our lives and futures are in the UK.
We have to find thousands of pounds (£9,662 for a family of four) every few years to renew visas. Many are forced into debt by these fees.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Right now, the Government is reviewing its immigration policies and could make some simple changes that would help us feel like we belong.
We’re calling on Secretary of State Yvette Cooper to change the rules so that:
• Parents with children here can stay in the UK permanently after 5 years, instead of 10
• Those of us who have already been here for decades already aren’t expected to wait another decade for security and safety
Allowing us to live our lives will help move us closer to a world where everyone making their lives in the UK can feel safe, secure and like they belong. Please join the campaign by signing the petition now.
